5 Minute Microwave Snack Chocolate Mug Cake

5 Minute Chocolate Mug Cake

I received this recipe in an email this weekend and I reopened it today - the idea is a bit weird but tempting and as curious as I am I had to give it a shot...

During the week I don't always have time for a lot of cooking or baking as I work full time and there is my son that need attention, the household and what not. anyway, I am using my microwave mainly for reheating so I have no experience with using it or cooking... I called my son and he took his favorite mug (that he had decorated with paint in kindergarten) and he whipped up the batter in it and we put it in the microwave - 4 min.

Hhhmmmm the smell was great and the result amazing... After the first bite is said no don't like it .. it wasn't halfway down my throat I wanted a second try... not so bad and in no time the half of the cake was gone... It is not a real cake it is more like a steamed pudding like cakey chocolate thing that I would expect as an English dessert with fruit and a creamy sauce - wonderful.. so my son will be making this again for sure!! and me too this is a fantastic last minute idea... Versatile as well..

I will keep you updated on this one... Alissa

5 MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE

4 tablespoons flour

4 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 egg
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons oil
3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional) ( i used Skor morsels)
a small splash of vanilla extract
1 large coffee mug

Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly. Pour in the milk and oil and mix well. Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract, and mix again.

Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts. The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed!

Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired.

EAT!

(this can serve 2 if you want to feel slightly more virtuous).

And why is this the most dangerous cake recipe in the world?
Because now we are all only 5 minutes away from chocolate cake at any time of the day or night!
